Pedal The Parkland

The 3rd annual Pedal the Parkland will take place on Saturday, September 18, 2010.

Five distinctive rides will be offered on our 3nd Annual Pedal the Parkland ride.  Pedal with us on country roads through some of Missouri’s most beautiful  State Parks painted in fall colors. All rides will start promptly at 8:00am. Packet pickup will begin at 7:00am at Mineral Area College on the parking lot.

Early packet pickup is at  St. Francois Winery  in Park Hills on Friday, September 17 from 4pm to 8pm.  Pick up your packets and stay for the wine, appetizers and conversation! (St. Francois Winery – 1669 Pine Ridge Trail,  Park Hills, MO 63601 (573) 431-4294)

We have new routes for the 100 mile Top of Missouri, the highest point in Missouri at Taum Sauk Mountain, and the 66 mile Endurance route.
This year the 30 mile Challenge will be an exciting ride with a moderate climb in the middle. The Mosey has increased to 17 miles mostly within St. Joe State Park on the bicycle trail.  The 15 mile Mountain Bike Scramble will be offered again this year conditions permitting. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the United Way of St. Francois County, MO.

Pedal the Parkland Routes:

The Top of Missouri ride will be 100 mile loop to Taum Sauk Mountain and then returning to Mineral Area College. The ride starts at the college parking lot and follows HWY 32 for a short distance, turns onto County Road B.  After a big climb up Loughborough Hill and a Waterin’ Hole to refill bottles or grab a snack, the route continues into Iron County to Elephant Rocks State Park via Bismarck and Caledonia.  Don’t forget to stop in at the General Store in Caledonia, a step back in time.  After the Waterin’ Hole at Elephant Rocks the route follows HWY 21 to Taum Sauk Mountain State Park.  The ride returns to Mineral Area College for the finish on more rural roads and St. Joe State Park.

The 17 mile Mosey starts at the College parking lot and follows HWY 32 until the exit at Missouri Mines State Historic Park where you will enter St. Joe State Park bicycle trail. There will be a Waterin’ Hole at Blankshire Trailhead with refreshments.  This route makes a loop in the park then returns via HWY 32 to Mineral Area College.

The  30 mile Challenge follows the 17 mile Mosey along HWY 32 but continues to County Road B.  After a big climb up Loughborough Hill, enjoy a  Waterin’ Hole on the other side.  This ride then travels through the towns of Bismarck and Park Hills for the return to the college.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————–
The 66 mile route follows the 32 mile Challenge to the Waterin’ Hole at Loughborough Hill then contines on into Iron County to Elephant Rocks State Park  through Bismarck and Caledonia.  Don’t forget to stop in at the General Store, you won’t regret it!  The route then returns to St. Joe State Park and back to the college.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————–
The 15 mile Mountain Bike Scramble will follow the 17 mile Mosey on HWY 32 for 2 miles then into St. Joe State Park by way of the Missouri Mines State Historic Park.
This route will have challenging hills, single track, creek crossings, rock gardens, sand traps and historical mine artifacts.  There will be SAG support but be aware that support is difficult on off-road routes.  Being self-supported is good common sense.  There will be a Waterin’ Hole with refreshments at Blankshire Trailhead.

    I love the new site!

Information is easily accessible. All the new info added to the site is great.

I live in the Festus area but hope to come down and do some rides this spring. (I love riding but I hate being cold, so trying a cold weather ride just doesn’t sound good to me.)

I was looking at your Pedal the Parkland page and I know I missed it for this year but it sounds like a great annual event. I did not see the date of the event on the page (maybe I missed it). Was wondering what week of October you normally do that event?

Looking forward to participating in some spring and summer rides.

    Donna,
Thanks for the nice comment. We would love to have you come down and ride with us. We will have lots of opportunities once the weather gets warmer and the 2010 season gets into full swing. We had the ride on October 10 this year but we are going to have it earlier in the year next season. We will most likely have the ride in early September.

    Thanks,
